Day 82: Lower bunk slats

Friday 28 May 2010

As I suspected I am short of timber the right length to complete all the slats though in total I have enough bits to do the two slats I am short of. Oh well another trip to the timber yard tomorrow then I suppose.

Those slats which could be screwed in place were, whilst those where the bed expands out to 122cm wide were laminated between sheets of 3mm and 6mm plywood.

Not only does the bed expand out at this point but the outer part is unsupported plus the whole area will be used as a step for the upper bunk and sitting area to get in the lower bunk, hence the laminating of the slats with plywood ensuring any load is spread across the whole area and not localised on a single slat.
